This year we hosted the event at the world-class Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, part of the Olympic Park in London and was our most successful conference ever!
Thanks go to Ruben Neyens who opened the conference with his practical on-court presentation. Ruben was followed by Samuel Porreh Jalloh’s powerful presentation on how tennis truly did save his life: an inspiration!
Bill Riddle flew all the way from Nashville to present and what a fun and interesting presentation he gave us! Bill is a king among speakers and if you missed it, you certainly missed out! Dr Michelle Cleere started off the afternoon with a presentation on ‘beating the tennis demons’ followed by an interesting session with Chazz Khan.
We were so pleased that Donato Campagnoli was able to make the conference too as we learnt lots from his educational presentation.
Of course, Andy Dowsett presented and we went outside for his lecture which gave coaches a taster of his SYSTEM-9 methods where we learnt some of the methods he uses to keep juniors in the game.
This year we had three awards: Lifetime Achievement Award, Pro of the Year and Club of the Year
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
I feel very humbled to receive the PTR Lifetime Achievement Award. I have been both very lucky and extremely privileged to have been involved in tennis for the past 43 years. I always believed in certain aspects of life that had to stay true to me and my future in the game.
If I was to have any longevity in the sport and after over 50,000 hours on a tennis court, I think these are important lessons to remember:
- Have fun and enjoy it
- Always be reliable
- Always put the client first
- Always teach something, in a thoughtful and progressive nature.
- Show your passion for the sport. Try and say ‘yes’ to opportunities in front of you.
- Strive to be the best you can be, do not settle for mediocrity
- Learn from everything you do, everything you see and everything people say (good or bad)
Thank you so much PTR for 25 glorious years!
PTR PRO OF THE YEAR
Member Neil Biddle was awarded Pro of the Year for his dedication and attitude towards developing coach education in Kent, as well as how he promotes PTR education throughout all of his clubs. Neil says:
I am honoured to win this award. It’s great to be recognised for all of the hard work I put in to developing my clubs and tennis in the UK. I get huge enjoyment from my work and love the challenge of developing my business and promoting tennis.
CLUB OF THE YEAR
The Club of the Year 2019 was awarded to Oakwood Tennis Club. Oakwood is a great example of the PTR coaching system in action; from the coaching team and coaching assistants all of whom are PTR trained through to Head Coach Neil who works within the PTR GB team tutoring coaches. Oakwood Tennis Club has increased the membership at the club in the last 10 years; it’s gone from a small club to a booming club with new facilities. Oakwood were also recent runners up in the prestigious LTA Club of the Year.
Head Coach, Neil Biddle said:
I’ve used PTR coaching system to recruit and train my own coaches for many, many years. It’s a proven method that allows me to grow my program from within. Oakwood is a PTR proud club!

Not only did we have superb speakers at our conference on Monday, but we’ve had some ridiculously good stands!
✅ OnCourt OffCourt had a stand and demonstrated their equipment!
✅ APJ Tennis had a trade stand with their quality strings, rackets and other tennis goods.

Each year the conference gets bigger and better! Thanks to all of our coaches who come to support us and hopefully go home having learnt lots of new information and effective coaching skills!
